How we calculate this
Time on notes each month = doctors × patients per day × minutes on notes per patient × clinic days ÷ 60. What that time is worth = those hours × the value of an hour you entered.
What an AI scribe might give back = time on notes × the percentage you chose. The default is 10% because that is the average drop in documentation time in the largest study so far: 1,809 clinicians using AI scribes at five academic medical centers spent 16 fewer minutes on documentation for every 8 hours of patient time, a 10% decrease (Rotenstein et al., JAMA, April 2026). In a randomized trial of 238 physicians, note time fell 9.5% with one scribe, and the change with the other was not significant (NEJM AI, 2025).
Some clinicians save more and some save less. We would rather show you a modest number you can trust than a big one you cannot.
Frequently asked questions
Why 10% and not more?
It is the published average from the largest study so far. You can switch to 5% or 20% to see a range. Bigger numbers are sometimes quoted, but the published averages are closer to 10%.
Does an AI scribe cut after-hours work?
In the largest study so far, after-hours EHR time did not change significantly. The saving the study measured was in documentation time overall.
